Welcome to another issue of the Team Spotlight series at LayerX 🚀
In this series, we delve into the stories, experiences, and perspectives of the incredible people that make LayerX. Today, we get to chat with Georgia Vasileiou, Social Media & Community Manager at LayerX!
We'll get to know her better and learn about the essential skills needed to manage the social presence of a web3 organization and build an engaged community!
It’s very dynamic and requires keeping up with the trends and the ability to stay updated. I start my day by checking all the social media platforms where we have a presence and our community platforms to monitor user engagement and gather insights. I also send all the necessary "gm" of the day.
Throughout the day, I engage with the community by responding to comments, initiating discussions, and managing any emerging issues or queries. Also, I collaborate closely with other departments, like the design and sales teams.
I appreciate how integral feedback is to our company culture. Even when I had only been on the team for two weeks, my team leader, Carlos, actively sought my feedback and offered his own.
This approach significantly enhances my sense of value within the company. It's encouraging to know that my suggestions for improving our operations and strategies are welcome. I truly feel valued and heard, even after such a short time here.
I really believe that soft skills are the most important skills in any job. Having this said, I will focus mainly on soft skills and not on hard skills:
Communication: Clear, concise, and effective communication is crucial, both in writing and verbally. This mainly includes the ability to convey ideas.
Analytical Thinking: Being able to analyze data, trends, and metrics to make informed decisions is essential. This helps in understanding what strategies are working and what needs adjustment.
Adaptability: The landscape of our industry can change rapidly. The ability to adapt to new strategies, trends, and changes in the market is essential.
Teamwork: Collaborating effectively with team members and other departments is necessary to ensure that projects are successful and goals are met.
The most fulfilling part of my job is interacting with the community. It's incredible to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds, each bringing their own unique experiences and knowledge. Receiving their energy and passion for the web3 ecosystem is truly mesmerizing.
One of the biggest challenges I face in my role is staying relevant. In the fast-paced world of web3, things change daily, and it's crucial to keep up with these changes to remain relevant. To overcome this, I continuously educate myself on the latest trends, participate in community discussions, and connect with experts in the field. This proactive approach helps me adapt and ensures that our strategies are always aligned with the current landscape.
My journey into the world of web3 began at Devcon Bogota in 2022, where I first saw its potential. Motivated by this eye-opening experience, I actively searched for conferences and events to network with others in the web3 ecosystem.
My involvement deepened when I became a Lead Volunteer at Devconnect, an experience that truly captivated me. I was drawn to the vibrant culture, the enthusiastic community, and the dynamic energy that permeated the event. It was during this time that I resolved to dedicate all my efforts towards making a mark in the web3 space.
Stalking, stalking, stalking! It's all about observation—essentially, stalking the trends relentlessly. I continuously monitor leading influencers, brands, and platforms to see what's capturing attention. This approach allows me to quickly adapt our strategies to capitalize on emerging trends, ensuring that our content remains fresh and engaging. It's a cycle of observing, adapting, and implementing.
For a career in social media management, concentrate on learning various platforms and mastering tools for scheduling and analytics. Stay current with trends and updates to adapt your strategies effectively. Creativity is key, so always look for new ways to engage your audience and keep your content fresh. Gaining practical experience through internships or managing accounts for smaller organizations or projects can also provide valuable insights and build professional skills.
In community management, the focus is on building and nurturing relationships. Develop strong communication skills to interact effectively with community members and handle feedback diplomatically. Understanding the demographics and preferences of your community is crucial for fostering engagement. Patience and resilience are essential, especially when navigating conflicts or crises. Participating in communities can also enhance your understanding and effectiveness in this role.
I actively seek to deepen my understanding of Web3 by reading books, and articles, and taking courses. Outside of work, I have a passion for board games—Catan is a favorite, so I'm always up for a game!
I'm also interested in the arts, including drawing and experimenting with clay. However, my greatest love is traveling. I've been from Peru to Tunisia and from the USA to Germany, visiting 21 countries so far, some of them multiple times. My next adventure is likely to be in Thailand for Devcon 7.
Happy to be part of this amazing community, and I really hope that eventually, I will be able to meet you in person somehow!
Stay tuned for the next episode of our Team Spotlight series, where we'll introduce you to another remarkable member of the LayerX family.
