2024 in retrospect: LayerX yearly recap and plans for 2025

We’re getting ready to say goodbye to 2024, so now it’s the perfect time to take a look back at everything we’ve accomplished this year. To be honest, we can’t help but feel a bit nostalgic reflecting on what we've achieved this year.

Looking back on the year that now comes to a close is both a celebration of the hard work our entire team did this year and an introspective moment to assess what went well and use those insights to improve in 2025.

Let’s take a look at some of the highlights of 2024 at LayerX before entering 2025 with the right foot!

TAIKAI

This was an incredible year for TAIKAI!

In 2024 we:

• Hosted 52 hackathons
• Welcomed +20,000 users to the platform
• Built +10 new partnerships, including EthBangkok, EthRome, EthMilan, EthOxford, EthTaipei, EthLatam, EthSamba, EthCincoDeMayo, EthCostaRica, and EthBelgrade
• Published +30 new articles 

But there was so much more to this year…

TAIKAI was deployed on Base

In 2024, TAIKAI migrated to Base which represented one of the most important developments at TAIKAI this year.

Base is an L2 that offers a secure, low-cost, and builder-friendly way for anyone to participate in the onchain ecosystem, and both TKAI and TAIKAI were deployed on Base.

With this migration, we joined forces with a network that shares our commitment to accessibility and innovation and set the stage for an impactful 2025 with expanded opportunities for our community.

Behind-the-scenes work for TAIKAI Garden

2024 was a year of intense behind-the-scenes work to launch the TAIKAI GArden.

TAIKAI Garden is a product extension of TAIKAI, and an innovation platform designed to empower builders through a collaborative environment that will provide mentorship and funding opportunities within a supporting community.

There isn’t a single element in the Garden that was developed without intention, and we can’t wait to launch it officially.

$TKAI listed on new exchanges

In 2024, TKAI was listed on Biconomy and MEXC, two leading exchanges with a global presence.

These listings on such reputed exchanges represented an important milestone for TKAI, with many benefits for TKAI holders, such as enhanced liquidity and expanded trading options.

With the upcoming launch of the TAIKAI Garden in 2025, the benefits for holders will be even more significant!

Bepro

Let’s talk Bepro! One of our most beloved projects has gone through some amazing transformations over the past couple of years, and we feel like as a product, Bepro has reached its maturation stage.

What this means is simple - most of the product features are developed by now, and we intend to keep working on Bepro adoption to bring more users and projects.

This year, however, was not in vain. We surpassed the 700 protocol members mark on Bepro and launched a new Marketplace (more on that later). We now have 7 different Task Marketplaces available, 54 tasks in total across all marketplaces, of which 9 are still available for completion!

Launch of the AI Marketplace

November was a turning point for Bepro, with the launch of the AI Marketplace!

With this upgrade, the Marketplace started featuring AI-focused tasks for those looking to capitalize on the growth of AI.

We launched 4 tasks focused on AI with a reward pool worth 1M BEPRO + 1.495 USDC, and there are still tasks up for grabs!

Last but not least, we published 14 articles on the Bepro blog, reinforcing our position as a thought leader in the infrastructure side of web3.

Launch of the Points system

Another major development at Bepro, was the launch of Points, a gamification system designed to reward builders for their participation and achievements within Bepro.

By completing various quests at Bepro, builders earn Points, which can then be swapped for rewards and exclusive offers.

There are many ways to earn Points, but here are some ways to give you an easy head start with Points: 

• Updating your profile: Tweak your profile and make sure it’s up to date.
• Completing onboarding tasks on Bepro: Get started with beginner tasks to earn your first Points.
• Completing tasks and challenges on Bepro: You earn Points when a proposal submitted for your deliverable is accepted.
• Locking tokens and delegating votes: You earn Points based on the value of the tokens (in USD) locked or delegated. This is calculated as the number of tokens locked (or votes delegated) multiplied by the token price (in USD).

LayerX

LayerX Summer Retreat

The LayerX team is spread across six countries, but 2024 gave us the opportunity to reconnect in person and share memorable moments together.

This retreat was one of the year’s most significant moments for the team because some of us had been together before, but many were meeting in person for the first time!

After a long time apart, our team came together to bond and enjoy a great time together.

We are already looking forward to the next retreat!

Launch of Probably Something

In September, we kicked off Probably Something, a space where we sit down with some of the most incredible web3 and blockchain names out there to talk about innovation and what’s next for the space.

In 2024, we hosted 3 episodes : 

• Episode #1: Staking, scaling, and web3 with Nader Dabit and Matt Murray from EigenLayer
• Episode #2: Women in web3 with Inês NW from SheFi, Natalia T from Scroll, Joana L from Algorand Foundation, Lavender K from H.E.R. DAO Kenya.
• Episode #3:Building on Base, with Pedro Oliveira from Talent Protocol.

This has been an amazing opportunity for us because we get to chat and learn from some of the brightest minds in web3 and blockchain.

In 2025, we look forward to hosting many more episodes, featuring incredible guests, and learning from their experiences!

We flew around the world to attend the BIG ecosystem events

Nothing builds relationships and collaboration faster than face-to-face events.

That’s why in 2024 the LayerX team was busy traveling around the world to attend some of the leading web3 and blockchain events, with Devcon SEA and EthCC 7 representing the most significant ones.

Here are our top 3 takeaways from the many events we attended this year:

• In 2025 and beyond, the focus of the ecosystem will certainly be on improving the UX/UI of decentralized technologies, with an emphasis on putting the user at the center and making decentralized technologies accessible to everyone.
• AI will play an important role also in web3 and the convergence between web3 and blockchain with AI will create new opportunities and use cases for decentralized technologies. Professionals who can easily navigate both technologies will have a competitive edge to advance their careers.
• There’s a growing importance and demand for non-technical roles, such as business development, sales, marketing, and community. It’s true that builders are the bread and butter of web3 but it will be the non-technical roles that will bridge the gap by educating the audience and driving a wider audience, even those who aren't tech-savvy.

What to expect from LayerX in 2025?

2025 will certainly bring a new share of challenges and opportunities and we look forward to embracing them, as always, with resiliency, creativity, and a commitment to continued growth.

In 2025, our first priority is the highly anticipated launch of the TAIKAI Garden. After months of hard work, we're now putting the final touches in place. The official launch will happen very soon and we’re counting the minutes to share it with our community.

We’re also keen on introducing more reward systems for TKAI, like staking opportunities to offer our users more ways to earn incentives along the way. These features are also set to be released soon.

Finally, we’re committed to expanding our user base even more, hosting even more hackathons, and strengthening our presence on leading exchanges, just as we did in 2024.
